ÖPIK SECURES MINISTERIAL MEETING FOR WELSH GREEN MANUFACTURERS

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 18th Oct 2006

At today's Welsh Questions in the House of Commons, Lembit Öpik, leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats and MP for Montgomeryshire, got agreement from Peter Hain MP, Secretary of State for Wales, for a ministerial meeting with Welsh green manufacturers to discuss a collective strategy to give the sector a major boost in Wales.

Commenting after Welsh Questions, Lembit said:

"I am delighted that Peter Hain has agreed to this meeting. We have a collective opportunity to unlock the enormous potential in Welsh green manufacturing industries, one that we cannot afford to miss.

"Welsh companies like Dulas, in Machynlleth, are doing some amazing work. But they need more of a strategic focus from the Government to ensure they can take centre stage in the Welsh economy.

"I am looking forward to working to promote the Welsh green manufacturing sector and Welsh green jobs. I sincerely hope that this meeting will set us on the right path to see Wales become the natural home of green technologies."
