4.50.39pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 29th May 2007

Lembit Öpik, MP for Montgomeryshire has today expressed his concern following new figures released by Dyfed-Powys Police showing the number of 17-24 year olds arrested for drinking and driving has risen sharply.

Commenting, Lembit Öpik MP said:

"I am deeply shocked and alarmed at these figures. It's clear that the "Don't drink and drive" message is not getting through to the nations youth.

"I shall be writing to the Minister responsible, Stephen Ladyman to pass on my concerns."
