I was very concerned to read about the planned cutbacks to rural bus services, which will hit the poorest in our communities and those who are not able to drive. Powys County Council's two options should be rejected as not acceptable.
Bus services in rural areas provide are vital lifelines linking villages to towns, and providing social opportunities. We must not allow the poor and those who are not able to drive to bear the brunt of these proposed cuts and Powys must recognise their important role in tackling isolation and strengthening our villages and rural areas.
It is for those reasons that Powys needs to look at alternatives and more options to make sure that people can still access the services they need. Plenty of rural areas have found cheaper more effective ways of doing this. I would ask that the Council investigates this immediately.
